The city of Pompano Beach, Florida started as a railroad town that opened the rest of Florida to the world. At one time, Pompano Beach was the end of the line so to speak, as the southernmost railroad station of the famous Florida East Coast Railway. One of the employees of that railroad gave Pompano Beach its name. He wrote down the name of the fish he had for dinner, hence, Pompano Beach.
