Do you remember your honeymoon? I still do. But for all the wrong reasons. When I got married, my wife and I were so broke after all the marriage expenses, that we barely had the time for a proper honeymoon. So we went to the next town (practically, that was all we could afford!) and got back so quick that some of the wedding guests were still at home! But just recently, when I happened to be looking through the newspaper, I came across the concept of honeymoon specials. Intrigued, I called the agency to see what it was all about and here is what I found.

Go ahead and relax and try to take in every word I'm about to tell you.

Apparently honeymoon specials have been around for ages. Wonder why we never managed to find honeymoon specials during our time! The concept is simple enough. Just as travel agencies have been targeting women and other categories of travelers, they have latched on to the concept of honeymoon specials to cater to that segment of our population that is so thrilled with tying the knot that they don’t see anything wrong with splurging a bit. And the wily travel operators have managed to get them offers they could otherwise not afford. Faced with the prospect of ever plunging occupancy rates, the hotels and resorts too were more than happy to jump onto the concept and thus honeymoon specials were born at this point.

What is so special about these honeymoon specials anyways? To answer that, we need to look at how some of them operate. First and foremost, honeymoon specials more often than not, target beach destinations. The best time would of course be the off peak season. With the honeymooners paying a reasonable price for a prime property, even if only for a couple of days or a week, the honeymoon specials enable them to upgrade to a better room, a better view and even a better destination if you think about it.

The already well entrenched concept of wedding showers have been expanded to fit honeymoon specials into their package. Guests at the wedding for instance can now participate in helping the couple choose ideal honeymoon specials. With each of the guests pitching in with the amount for a better room, better services, spa and relaxation escapades and even for the ticket prices of the flights, the honeymoon specials actually turn out to be a special gift for the newly weds. Speaking for myself, I can only say that I regret the fact that these sort of honeymoon specials were not around in my day. A twinge of regret? Perhaps! But it is never too late to go on a second honeymoon now i'm not advocating that.
